Afternoon Nap

Turns out the little feisty one is a light sleeper like me. No nasal cannular going anywhere near her during her mid-day shut-eye. I tried, but she wakes instantly.

So rather than risk depriving her of sleep, I'm trying this out. Of course that means I have to watch her and reposition the tube whenever she turns. I wonder if this is effective though. Meanwhile, we'll just have to press on with the prongs in the night.

We were given (and have lost) a cool kitty (stuffed animal) that we always called her Oxygen Cat, because we put a velcro "collar" around its neck and threaded the tubing through the collar and used the weighted Cat to position the tubing near Mallorie's face. The limbs of the cat were really floppy and weighted on the ends (feet), so it was really an effective positioner. Other things we have done is roll a cloth prefold diaper (the ones that are sewn so the center is thicker than the sides) around the tubing, and fasten it with a rubber band or something. Tape like you use just wouldn't hold very long. The Oxygen Cat has been our best thing yet, and I've been meaning to ask our friends where they got it, so I can get another. I think any doll that is floppy and has weighted parts might work well. If we get one, I'll post pictures.

The taping-the-nasal-cannula is a no-go here. I can't even IMAGINE using CPAP or BIPAP on Mal. For a baby who hardly moves, she sure manages to throw a fit and get things off her face! :)

she looks so beautiful and peaceful sleeping in this photo. hard to believe she would ever cause a fuss about anything. isn't that always the way? they look so innocent in sleep, but when they wake up - whew - watch out :)
