Advice Needed

Vera is having a bout of bad secretions for the last 2 days.
Very thick, suctioning needed every 3 hours.
Vomiting her feeds.
Able to sleep only 1 hour max at a stretch at night.
Very tired out.
No fever.

So far giving Fluimucil 1/4 pack, once a day.
Zyrtec 2.5ml 2x a day.

Only relief she gets is if I prop her up with an adult pillow. But she tends to slide off when she turns. I have to stay up and reposition her all night through.

Anyone knows whether there's some sort of a "wedge pillow" specially for kids to recline?

Short of buying a hospital bed that can crank up and down.

She's got humidifier thru her bipap, already on saline every few hours, and on machine suctioning every 3 hours. And she's pretty strong now and struggles past any rolled towels we install. So we're needed some heavy duty solutions I'm afraid. : (

Back to the struggling girl...

Oh how I wish I could help. Annabel did get a great deal on the sleep-safe bed that adjust with head and knees up. It was bought at auction so could pass up the deal. Are you able to put something under the two front feet of her baby bed, like where the head is. That is what we did and also placed wedge under head of mattress and another under her mattress pad when she used baby bed.
Annabel had so much trouble with secretion but is now on Robinul. I am sure I have mentioned this before but can't get off at all or gets really bad fast. She can only take 1/2 prescribed dose due to contipation/urine retention but it sure help.

hey may... hv u consulted dr on the dosage for flumucil? seems like a pretty low dose? recently a dr told us tat @ 5.5, rac can take up to 2 packets per dose but its a pretty mild med so we had to take cough mixtures ranging from decongestant to mixture w steriod or ventolin to help clear when things get bad. is she on ventolin puff? last mth i brought rac to A&E cos she was wheezing & they gave her 3 rounds of 10 ventolin puffs. sounds crazy, but @ least tat helped & she din get warded. follow-up was 4 puffs 4 hourly, tapered down the next few days, and she din need the neb.

as for propping up, we used to fold a large blanket/comforter into layers/steps, so tat rac lies on a gradual gradient, back fully supported, & is less likely to roll off in one turn. but i see in your pic vera is sleeping on a baby cot? are you able to tie a cloth across her body, under the armpits? maybe that will prevent her from sliding off too quickly.

thanx, rae.

Would a wedging pad (like those they use at PT) help? You can buy them in Singapore rehab stores.

I find that Zyrtec doesn't really work for Jonathan since it's only for allergy. And if he takes too much of it, secretion will develop.

When I think of anything else, I'll email you.
