Walk in the Park II

Today we brought Vera to West Coast Park in the evening. It was a first for us as well. We spend too much time in the house, so it was nice to just get out in the open.

The little girl however doesn't seem to like being awake in the day. It's possible her hazy corneas scatter the light and therefore makes overly bright environments uncomfortable for her eyes. So might as well sleep. Next time, I'll post a pix of how big her eyes open at night!

Ok, I don't want to sound like know it all but I learned this at the SOFT conference. Trisomy 18 babies are so sensitive to sunlight. Not only are they sensitive but it is very painful to them. I will take a picture of Annabel's sunglasses that they give at the conference and send it your way. I think I am going to start hoping that maybe somehow Vera, her mommy and daddy will get to one day come to the conference. There is so much information. I wish you didn't live so far. I don't mean to always seem to have an answer but I was so grateful when someone told me these answers. I just thought Annabel's eyes always watered just because it was so bright. There are two things you can give her to help with this. I will look in my book concerning eyes and somehow email to you.

the two things they usually say to give kids with photosensitivity are lutein - a natural supplement found in the vitamin section. and they usually say to use artificial tears b/c sometimes the sensitivity is exacerbated by dryness caused by the children not being able to close their eyes all the way.
