Losing Weight
Vera's been losing weight over the past month. 7.6kg, 7.5kg, 7.4kg (16pounds). I wonder if this is average for 10 month old Trisomy babies? We're definitely underfeeding her. But the girl isn't able to take very much at one go. 120ml (4 oz) every 3 hourly is what she's on now. We don't feed her at night though in case it disrupts her sleep. Hopefully, it doesn't continue to slide.

Oh, girl. I want to leave a comment, but you gotta know that I have nothing to share! You are living MY life! Does it at least help if you know we are in this together? Mallorie has gotten to the point where she can take 150 cc, but no more. Well, actually, we can fit 20 cc of yogurt in with the milk, lately, so 170 cc. But we are pushing it. And then when we substitute something like carrots or chicken (pureed) or something else for the 20 cc of yogurt ... vomit city. Then back to square one, a few feeds of just the milk, then 20 cc yogurt added back in eventually, and we scratch our heads and ask what food we will try next?
One thing we had to do ... Mallorie lost because I did the same thing. She sleeps better without feeding at night, so we dropped the nighttime feeding in, but can't make it up in the daytime. We tried every 3 hrs in the day to get 6 feeds in, and her stomach never fully emptied. And we can't do less than 6 feeds, because that's how she got losing wt in the first place. So we are back to feeding her every 4 hrs, day and night.
When you figure this all out, can you email me and let me know?? :)

let me just start off by saying that kaiya wasn't as big as vera until she was twice her age so kudos to you for being able to get that much weight on her! weight has probably been our second biggest issue (the first is of course constipation) kaiya is an oral eater, so i don't have a great handle on how any types of feeding tubes work. she came home from the hospital with a NG tube, but pulled it out right away so we left it out... but can you put a calorie booster into the milk and then put it through the tube? we use benecalorie in kaiya's food. it is supposed to blend into any foods and not affect the taste (although with a tube feeding i'm sure taste doesn't really matter...) we have also used duocal - it has less calories than the benecalorie and is a powder instead of a liquid/oil like the benecalorie - but it also dissolves into liquids.
i know how frustrating it is when you are doing everything you can to pack on the pounds and it just isn't working :(
i love the pic of vera playing with the toy! very cute look on her face!
Vera's getting a protein powder now but that's all. We know she's bigger than most T18 her age, so we're not too worried yet. we are just aiming to make sure she maintains her weight. thanks for your suggestions!
Just checking in to see if she is still losing. I always thought Annabel was thin, but looking back she had periods when she looked like she would bust she was so fat. Now, these legs just keep growing, gotta get some fat on them. I wish you were closer to clap also.
